Aspect ratio
Aspect ratio is the width-to-height shape of an image or video — 16:9 widescreen, 1:1 square, 9:16 vertical. The right ratio is the one the platform it ships to is built around.
Each platform has a native shape: 9:16 fills a phone screen on TikTok, Reels and Shorts; 16:9 is YouTube and presentation decks; 1:1 and 4:5 own the feed. Generating natively in the target ratio beats cropping afterwards, because the model composes for the frame — subject placement and headroom are chosen for that shape rather than amputated into it.
A concrete example: the same clip concept prompted at 16:9 puts the subject centre-frame with scenery either side; at 9:16 the model stacks the scene vertically and tightens the subject — a crop of the first would have cut off the top of their head.
