Upscaling (super-resolution)
Upscaling, or super-resolution, is increasing an image's pixel dimensions with AI that reconstructs plausible detail instead of stretching. A small or soft photo becomes large and sharp enough to print.
Classic resizing invents nothing — it smears the same information across more pixels. AI upscalers are trained on pairs of low- and high-resolution images, so they hallucinate the detail that was probably there: skin texture, fabric weave, leaf edges. Done well, the result is indistinguishable from a native high-resolution shot; done aggressively, it drifts into a different face, which is why tiers range from faithful to creative.
A concrete example: an 800-pixel web image becomes a print-ready 22K file — the eyelashes, hair strands and fabric grain are reconstructed, not interpolated.
