Hermosso vs Photoroom
Competitor details checked against their own pricing and documentation on 14 October 2026. These move fast — if something below is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
Photoroom took the most-repeated task in e-commerce imagery — cutting a product out of its background — and built the category's deepest product-photography workflow around it: AI backgrounds, batch editing across a whole catalogue, brand kits, generated fashion models, genuinely good mobile apps, an API built for pipelines, and a wall of free tool pages every marketplace seller has landed on at least once.
Hermosso's centre of gravity is people, not products: a persona trained on your own selfies, 70 curated photoshoot packs, a video suite, UGC ad creative with a consistent face, and an interiors studio. Products can star in that work, but the subject that stays consistent frame after frame is a person.
The overlap is real at the edges — either tool can put a product on a clean background — but the bulk of each product serves a different job, and most teams need one of them more.

What Photoroom does better
For product photography at catalogue scale, Photoroom is the deeper tool, and it is not close. Batch editing that applies one change across hundreds of listings, brand kits that keep a whole catalogue on-brand, team seats on ordinary paid plans, and an API built for pipelines with per-image billing — that is the daily workflow of a marketplace operation, built directly. We have not built it.
The top of the funnel is generous too: an ongoing free plan with a monthly export allowance, free tool pages for the one-off jobs, and mobile apps good enough that plenty of sellers run their whole listing workflow from a phone. Their annual pricing is honest value as well — Pro works out near $7.50 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026, which undercuts our entry price.
If your bottleneck is product imagery volume, Photoroom is the specialist, and we would say so to their face.
What Hermosso does better
People, not mannequins. Photoroom's fashion models are generated faces; they cannot hold a specific person across shoots. Hermosso trains a private persona on your selfies in about two minutes and reuses that person across 70 curated packs — the founder's headshot, the team page, the campaign talent, all recognisably the same human. If the subject is a person, only one of these tools does the job.
Video depth beyond product clips. Photo-to-video, motion transfer that recasts you into existing footage, talking photos, a UGC ad studio that turns a product URL into scripted clips with a consistent avatar, and the Movie Studio for multi-shot films — against video generation aimed at animating product shots on higher tiers.
An interiors studio and a 22K ceiling. Restyle, virtual staging, relight and material swap built by two practising architects, plus five upscale tiers to 22K where Photoroom tops out at 4K on its most expensive plan.
Credits that never expire. $9 a month with monthly billing and a balance that waits for you between bursts of work — no annual commitment required to get a fair price.
The verdict
Choose Photoroom if you run marketplace listings and the bottleneck is product shots at scale — background removal across a catalogue, batch edits, an API in the fulfilment pipeline, team seats. That is their home ground and they hold it.
Choose Hermosso if the content is people-first: a founder's personal brand, consistent campaign talent, UGC ad creative with a face customers recognise, or anything involving video, interiors or finishing to 22K.
Running both is a real option, and for a product brand with a visible founder it is arguably the correct one: Photoroom for the catalogue, Hermosso for the humans. At $9 a month for our side, the combination is easy to justify.

Is Photoroom free?
There is an ongoing free plan with a monthly export allowance, which is genuinely useful for occasional background removal. Paid plans as of October 2026: Pro at $12.99/month or about $7.50/month billed yearly, with Max and Ultra above that — check their pricing page, since the tiers moved more than once in 2026. Hermosso starts at $9/month with 400 free credits on signup.
Can Photoroom make photos of me?
Not of you specifically. Its AI fashion models are generated people — useful for showing garments on a model, but the face is invented, not yours. A consistent, recognisable person needs a trained persona, which is what Hermosso's AI Persona does from 10–20 of your selfies in about two minutes.
Does Hermosso do batch product editing like Photoroom?
No, and for catalogue-scale batch work Photoroom is the right tool — that workflow is their core product. Hermosso works one shoot at a time and aims at people-first content: personas, packs, video and ad creative.
Which has a better API?
Different shapes. Photoroom's API is mature and per-image billed, built for high-volume product pipelines. Hermosso's REST API covers every studio tool — photos, video, editing, upscaling — and draws on your plan credits with no separate meter, included with the Studio plan. Product pipelines lean Photoroom; creative pipelines lean Hermosso.
Should a marketplace seller use both?
Often, yes: Photoroom for the catalogue imagery at scale, Hermosso for the founder, the brand's people and the UGC ad creative. Neither locks up your images, and the combined cost is modest.
